Conditioner Card Accessories

Model 10A1 Control Signal Card

For use with the Model 10A74-4C Quad Strain Gage Track-Hold Conditioner Card in a System 10 "B-sized" mainframe (only)

Communicating over the internal Analog Signal Bus, the Model 10A1 controls and coordinates the TRACK/HOLD function of all Model 10A74-4C cards mounted in the same A-card rack (or "deck") of a "B-sized" System 10 mainframe (only).* When a 10A74-4C’s rear I/O Connector is dedicated to a Bridge Completion Connector or Model 10VAC Voltage Input Adaptor, that card’s TRACK/HOLD function can only be controlled by means of a Model 10A1.

In a multi-rack mainframe, a separate 10A1 is required to control the 10A74-4C cards occupying each rack. All of the mainframe’s 10A1 cards will then be linked via a special interconnect cable (No. 52369), which is supplied with the cards. To ensure that all 10A74-4C input channels in the system "capture" their data at the same instant, a single "master" 10A1 must be designated for synchronization to the system scan cycle. This is accomplished by application of a TRACK HOLD CONTROL (THC) command. The System 10 scan cycle can be "slaved" in turn to an external pulse signal received through the RS-422 interface provided by a designated Model 10BACI-422 Auxiliary Computer Interface Card.

The system’s "master" 10A1 causes a continuous "HOLD" command to be applied to all 10A74-4C inputs from all mainframe decks, except during the few microseconds per scan when it is itself processed as a data channel. During this processing period, the "HOLD" command is released and all 10A74-4C channels are permitted to track their respective strain-gage inputs. When the processing of the 10A1-dedicated channel is complete, the 10A74-4C inputs are again "held" until the next scan. A data set with minimal time-skew is thereby generated with each scan cycle.

Model 10A11 Thermocouple Output Processor Card

For use with the Model 10A9-8C or 10A10-4 Thermocouple Conditioner Card in System 10 (only)

The Model 10A11 makes available to the System 10 Central Processor the reference-junction-corrected temperature readings acquired by a Model 10A9-8C or 10A10-4 Thermocouple Conditioner Card.

One Model 10A11 must be installed in every A-card rack containing one or more Model 10A9-8C or 10A10-4 cards.* The purpose of the 10A11 is to proportion and sum the cold-junction reference signal and the amplified TC signal of each 10A9-8C and/or 10A10-4 channel for presentation to the system’s Analog Signal Bus.

*Since that Model 10A1 uses the same system bus as the Model 10A11 Thermocouple Output Processor Card, a THERMOCOUPLE CONDITIONER such as the Model 10A9-8C or 10A10-4 cannot be used in the same A-card deck as a Model 10A1.

Model 10AX-2 Auxiliary Excitation Card

For use in System 10, SPS6000, or SPS8000

This card supplies two channels of regulated, sensed ±12 V-DC, ±2% power (up to 20 mA) for excitation of external transducers. Though most often used to power high-output DC-to-DC LVDT's, it may also be used with other transducers within the above voltage and current range.

Model 10CJB-2 Dual Bridge Completion Card

For use with the Model 10A72-2C or AA72 Strain Gage Conditioner Card in System 10, SPS6000, or SPS8000

This external junction box lets you connect each 10A72-2C or AA72 input to a 2-wire 1/4-bridge, 3-wire 1/4-bridge, 1/2-bridge, or full-bridge strain gage configuration.** Each 1/4-bridge configuration may use either 120 or 350 ohms nominal gage resistance. The function of the Model 10CJB-2 is to "complete" the connected bridge- that is, to allow it to be seen by the Model 10A72-2C as a full (4-arm) Wheatstone bridge.

To connect the 10CJB-2 to the rear I/O Connector of a Model 10A72-2C, the user may furnish his or her own pin-to-pin shielded cable, or may use a special cable supplied by Daytronic. In either case, appropriate terminal connectors will be supplied.

To connect the 10CJB-2 to the rear I/O Connector of a Model AA72, a special Daytronic cable is required.

Calibration of a channel originating from a Model 10CJB-2 requires entry of at least one calibration point in units of microstrain (microinches/inch).

** In the case of a four-channel Model AA72-4, two 10CJB-2 units may be used.

Model 10CJB-4 Quad Bridge Completion Card

For use with the Model 10A74-4C Strain Gage Conditioner Card in System 10 or SPS8000

The 10CJB-4 is identical to the Model 10CJB-2, except that
  • It accommodates four strain-gage inputs (rather than two), each of which may be connected to a 2-wire 1/4-bridge, 3-wire 1/4-bridge, 1/2-bridge, or full-bridge strain gage configuration
  • It contains a switch for selection of the excitation level to be applied to all four channels of an older Model 10A73-4 Quad 1/4 & 1/2 Bridge Strain Gage Conditioner Card only (the Model 10A74-4C, which supersedes the 10A73-4, has its own on-board jumpers for selection of the shared excitation level)
  • It cannot be used with the Model AA72 Strain Gage Conditioner
To connect the 10CJB-4 to the rear I/O Connector of the Model 10A74-4C, the user may furnish his or her own pin-to-pin shielded cable, or may use a special cable supplied by Daytronic. In either case, appropriate terminal connectors will be supplied.

Calibration of a channel originating from a Model 10CJB-4 requires entry of at least one calibration point in units of microstrain (microinches/inch).

Bridge Completion Connectors:
Models 10QBC-4-120, 10QBC-4-350, and 10QBC-4-1K (Quarter-Bridge);
Model 10HBC-4 (Half-Bridge); and Model 10FBC-4 (Full-Bridge)

For use with the Model 10A74-4C Strain Gage Conditioner Card in System 10 or SPS8000

Each of these four-channel Bridge Completion Connectors attaches directly to the rear I/O Connector of the Strain Gage Conditioner Card.* The function of each connector is to "complete" the connected bridge- that is, to allow it to be seen by the Model 10A74-4C as a full (4-arm) Wheatstone bridge.

The Model 10QBC-4-120, 10QBC-4-350, or 10QBC-4-1K is for completion of up to four 2-wire or 3-wire 1/4-bridge (1-arm) gage configurations with nominal resistance of 120 ohm, 350 ohm, or 1 k-ohm, respectively. The Model 10HBC-4 is for completion of up to four 1/2-bridge (2-arm) gage configurations. The Model 10FBC-4 is for secure screw-terminal connection of up to four full-bridge (4-arm) gage configurations. Unlike the 10CJB-2 and 10CJB-4 (above), the Bridge Completion Connectors do not permit mixing of connected gage configuration types. That is, all gage configurations connected to the same Bridge Completion Connector must be of the same appropriate type (120-ohm 1/4-bridge, 350-ohm 1/4-bridge, 1-k-ohm1/4-bridge, 1/2-bridge, or full-bridge).

Gage leads are connected directly to labelled screw terminals inside the connec-tor case, and may be secured by means of internal cable clamps.

    * For this reason, logic commands for "shunt" calibration or analog “Track/Hold” control cannot be issued to the 10A74-4C through its rear I/O Connector, when a Bridge Completion Connector is attached.

Model 10CTJB-8 Thermocouple Junction Box

For use with the Model 10A9-8C Eight-Channel Thermocouple Conditioner Card in System 10 or SPS8000, or with the Model 10A10-4 Quad Thermocouple Conditioner Card in System 10 only

You can use the Model 10CTJB-8 with a Model 10A9-8C or 10A10-4 to move the temperature-compensated reference junction to the actual site of up to eight remote thermocouple sensors.**

TC leads connect directly to internal screw terminals in the 10CTJB-8 box, and may be connected in any desired type mixture. The Junction Box then sends their signals to the 10A9-8C or 10A10-4 via copper conductors (only). Note that the user must furnish his or her own pin-to-pin cable for connecting the 10CTJB-8 to the rear I/O Connector of the TC Conditioner Card. Daytronic will supply appropriate solder-terminal connectors for this cable. The cable should be shielded, and should consist of stranded copper wires. While no maximum cable length is actually specified, the wire size and length combination should be such that the total per-wire resistance does not exceed 25 ohm.

Note also that the 10CTJB-8 can only be used in environments with an ambient temperature between 0° F and +140° F.

**In the case of the 10A10-4, only four TC sensors can be connected to the 10CTJB-8. A single Model 10CTJB-8 can be dedicated to only one Model 10A10-4 card.

Model 10VAC Voltage Input Adaptor

For use with the Model 10A74-4C Strain Gage Conditioner Card in System 10 or SPS8000

The Model 10VAC is a special connector assembly which allows the Model 10A74-4C Quad Strain Gage Track-Hold Conditioner Card to receive and condition up to four independent external analog signals in place of its normal strain-gage inputs, when it is desired to apply the special TRACK-HOLD function of the 10A74-4C to these analog voltage signals.

Each 10VAC voltage input can take one of three ranges: ±5, 10, or 20 V-DC. Inputs may be mixed as desired. The following specifications apply to the resulting voltage measurements:

Analog Peak Capture and Track/Hold Provisions in System 10:
Model 10A79-4 Analog Peak Capture Card

Each of the 10A79-4’s four analog inputs can be hard-wired to any System 10 Conditioner Card that has "Auxiliary Outputs." Operating on these conditioned measurement signals, the 10A79-4 can be remotely controlled to provide
  • Real-time capture of analog-signal peak values, both positive and negative
  • Continuous real-time "MAX minus MIN" measurement
  • Real-time "TRACK and HOLD" operation for up to four analog signals
  • Buffering of up to four analog signals for continuous, real-time, unscaled output to various external devices

Analog Output Provisions in System 10 and/or SPS8000

For purposes of real-time monitoring, the Model 10AAO-4 Analog Buffer Card may be used in either System 10 or SPS8000 to provide continuous buffering, filtering, and fixed gain of 1, 2, or 4 for up to four individual analog signals originating (via internal hard-wire connections) from the "Auxiliary Outputs" of one or more Conditioner Cards. The 10AAO-4’s ±5-V outputs may be issued to an oscilloscope, strip-chart recorder, or other external receiver.

In System 10, the Model 10AAO-8 Analog Output Card provides up to eight independent, digitally-controlled ±5 V-DC outputs- scaled as desired- for commanding servo loops and for driving external recorders, plotters, indicators, etc. Unlike the outputs produced by the 10AAO-4, those of the 10AAO-8 are derived from any standard system data channels (not from Conditioner Card "Auxiliary Outputs"). The Model AO8 Analog Output Card is the SPS8000 equivalent of the 10AAO-8. Output voltages generated by the AO8 may be scaled and "clamped" as desired by the user.

For the generation of an analog error signal for stable, high-speed closed-loop control in System 10, the Model 10APID Loop Control Card is available.

Using the externally mounted Model 10CAI-8 Eight-Channel Buffer Interface with the Model 10AAO-4 or 10AAO-8 in System 10- or with the Model 10AAO-4 or AO8 in SPS8000- you can directly connect system analog outputs to a test or process that employs ISA standard 4-to-20 mA control signals, or you can amplify analog outputs to the ±10 V-DC range.

The Model 10CISO-8 Isolated Analog Buffer Interface is an external unit for ±10-V isolated buffering of up to eight individual analog signals originating from a Model 10AAO-4, 10AAO-8, or AO8, or from standard Conditioner Card "Auxiliary Outputs."
