Model 10CIF488A IEEE Interface Adaptor     [Back ]

The Model 10CIF488A enables any System 10 mainframe to be established as a "Talker/Listener" peripheral on a standard IEEE-488 bus, with a switch-selectable bus address from 0 through 30.

As shown in the figure below, the 10CIF488A consists of two separate units (each of which is described below): the Model 10E422 RS232-to-RS422 Converter and the Model 10CLB488 IEEE-488-to-RS422 Interface Converter.  The interconnecting RS422 cable must be supplied by the user (Daytronic Cable No. 52259 may be used for distances of up to 10 feet).

Connection of Models 10E422 and 10CLB488 to Form the Model 10CIF488A

* 110 or 220 VAC.  Power supply NOT REQUIRED when the 10E422 connects to an "A-sized" mainframe or to a Model 10BACIA Auxiliary Computer Interface Card.

Model 10E422 RS232-to-RS485 Converter     [Back ]

This external adaptor lets you convert to RS422 standards a System 10 mainframe's main RS232C Computer Interface or the "Auxiliary" RS232C Interface supplied by an optional "10BACI" Card.

A single 10E422 would be used to link a mainframe either to a device with RS422 I/O (as in the diagram below) or to a Model 10CLB488 IEEE-488-to-RS422 Converter (as in the 10CIF488A diagram above).  Baud rate and other protocols for the resulting RS422 interface are identical to those to which the mainframe's RS232C interface has been set.

A six-foot power cord is supplied with the 10E422, with a switch-selectable transformer that may be plugged into any standard source of 110 or 220 VAC (60 Hz).  Model 10E422 dimensions (HWD in inches/cm) are 2.09/5.31, 3.25/8.26, 0.56/1.42.

Connection of a Single 10E422

* 110 or 220 VAC.  Power supply NOT REQUIRED when the 10E422 connects to an "A-sized" mainframe or to a Model 10BACIA Auxiliary Computer Interface Card.

Model 10CLB488 IEEE-488-to-RS422 Converter     [Back ]

A basic component of the Model 10CIF488A IEEE Interface Adaptor, the externally mounted Model 10CLB488 is used as shown in the above 10CIF488A diagram to directly connect a System 10 mainframe's Model 10E422-converted interface to an IEEE-488 bus.

A six-foot power cord comes with the 10CLB488, with a switch-selectable transformer that may be plugged into any standard source of 110 or 220 VAC.  Model 10CLB488 dimensions (HWD in inches/cm) are 1.14/2.90, 9.05/22.99, 3.25/8.26.

Model 10ESRE Serial Range Extender     [Back ]

Under optimal circumstances, the maximum cable length for valid RS232C interchanges at 153.6K baud is approximately 50 feet.  However, by means of the Model 10ESRE, you can extend the distance for high-speed serial communications to approximately one kilometer (3000 feet), using a BELDEN 9730 DATALENE 100-Ω cable (for precise configuration and shielding, contact the factory).

As shown in the following diagram, the Model 10ESRE itself consists of

two Model 10E422 RS232C-to-RS422 Converters

a 10-foot, 9-wire, 100-Ω shielded RS422 cable (Daytronic Cable No. 52259), intended primarily for testing purposes

two plug-in AC power adapters

Connection of the Model 10ESRE

* 110 or 220 VAC.  Power supply NOT REQUIRED when the 10E422 connects to an "A-sized" mainframe or to a Model 10BACIA Auxiliary Computer Interface Card.

** 110 or 220 VAC.  Power supply NOT REQUIRED when the 10E422 connects to a Model PC-HSICA High-Speed Serial Interface Card in the external computer.

Here, in order to boost the 153.6K-baud link between a System 10 mainframe and an external RS232C computer, printer, or PLC, one of the two 10E422 units is attached to the mainframe's Computer Interface Port of optional "Auxiliary" (10BACIA-supplied) Computer Interface Port.  The other 10E422 attaches to the RS232C port of the external device.

Two six-foot power cords are supplied with the 10E422, one for each of the two Model 10E422's, each with a switch-selectable transformer that may be plugged into any standard source of 110 or 220 VAC (60 Hz).

Model PC-HSICA High-Speed Serial Interface Card
[Back ]

This half-height card is recommended when one or more System 10 mainframes are connected to an external computer with limited input buffering.  When installed in the computer, it makes available a DB25 RS232 port for asynchronous serial communication at 600, 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, 19.2K, and 153.6K baud.  Baud rate and other interface protocols may be completely specified via the DOS "MODE COM" or BASIC "OPEN COM" command, or through the Windows TERMINAL program.

With enhanced EMI filtering and transient suppression, the PC-HSICA is recommended for serial interchanges not only because of speed, but also because it furnishes a true hardware handshake, thus reducing the possible noise effects that can result from the use of a long interface cable.

The PC-HSICA features receive and transmit FIFO's with 32-byte depth plus "Receive FIFO Full" and "Carriage Return Detect" interrupt capabilities.  In addition, the card can be configured as a standard 16C650 UART with all its functional capability (requires optional driver).
