4500 Series General Description & Features

The Model 4500 may house up to four 5D modules to interface to the user's application sensors and transducers (see 5D Modules). Each 5D module contain two independent analog output signals. "A" output of the module is routed to the internal A to D of the 4500 unit, while the "B" output is accessible to the user via the Analog Output terminals on the rear of the 4500 unit. Along with the live analog signal, the 4500 has eight logic inputs and eight logic output for command and control of the unit. The 4500 also provide the user with four Digital to Analog output signals which can be used for set-point control, loop control and other "analog" value as obtained from the internal cross channel calculations of the 4500 unit.

Four signal conditioning slots for analog input conditioners

Used for all standard 5D models. Each slot may contain any "type" of 5D module given the user's application needs. The 4500 "scans" each analog slot signal at a rate of 10 Khz converting the value into engineering units, while checking for limit zone tolerances and publishing the answer to the 4500's memory array to be used by the display, logic control, DAC output or computer interface.  Each 5D also sends an analog output (filtered ± 0 to 5 VDC) to the rear of the 4500 instrument for simultaneous local calibration/metering and high-speed data acquisition sampling that is independent of the 4500 operation.

High accuracy over a wide temperature range

The traditional Daytronic benchmark for measurement accuracy (0.02% of full scale typical) meets or exceeds the competition, guaranteeing repeatable sensor signal integrity for amazingly stable readout and solidly dependable control action, even in the most electrically noisy environments. The 5D modules provide the isolation, sensing, shunt calibration, filtering, excitation, gain and other sensor interfacing parameters while the 4500 high speed 16 bit A/D provides the digital results.

Digital Logic Interfacing

The Model 4500 contains eight logic inputs and eight logic outputs on four separate screw terminal connectors. Biasing of the signals are done on each connector via the Vcc connection giving the user the flexibility of working with multiple logic connection schemes for the application. Each logic signal is updated at > 10KHz rate resulting in very high speed control capability of the 4500 unit.

Computer / PLC  interfacing

The Model 4500 contains a standard three wire RS-232 port that is fixed at a baud rate of 19.2Kb, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit and no parity. This port uses the traditional Daytronic three letter syntax mnemonics to access configuration data and scanned channel / logic data as required for the application. This method allows users of the Daytronic 4000 and System 10 series to conveniently adapt their applications to the Model 4500 with minimal effort. Daytronic provides UtiliPAC410 and Xlogger programs to assist in the setup of each of these instruments.

The Model 4500i adds the capability of Ethernet communications over Telnet  communications while maintaining the "mnemonic" terminal experience that has followed Daytronic instruments over the years.
